5-3-09 Holywell pond

Spent a quiet afternoon at Holywell pond after tramping for miles over the last couple of days, time for a bit of sit down birding, 15 Snipe feeding in the short grass, with a couple of Curlew,,2 Canada, and a few Greylags, Two Great Crested Grebes back, and a few hundred gulls spaced out behind the Island , but nothing unusual in with them that I could see, another flock of Greylag dropped in followed up by about 50 Pinkfeet, that stayed about an hour or so taking off and coming back a couple of times before heading North, usual good number of Greenfinch on the feeders and a pair of Long Tailed Tits, also a pair of Siskin, picked up a Raptor over towards the Hall & Obelisk which I thought could have been Red Kite, turned to get the scope on it and it was gone , so will have to remain a mystery, Great Spotted as to be expected, but I had hoped for Brambling , thinking they may have come back during the cold spell, check out SURFBIRDS for pictures of Brambling flock thought to number over a million birds , you have to view from under an umbrella for obvious reasons, but for me one would do for now. Not sure what happened on the right looks like perhaps a collision

This winter these are the first Pinkfeet I have seen come onto water !!!!
