28-29 -07 West Hills & St Gregory's

Saturday we went to West Hills & St Gregory’s two hill fort/settlements a few miles north of Wooler and overlooking Kirknewton a blustery Westerly made it seem chilly and kept most things down so it was a quick walk around the base and up onto the tops good views of the area and the climb is not too steep Wheatear, Meadow pipits on the top and three Buzzards over the gap between the two hills and a pair of Kestrels a run down to Hartehope thinking it would be more sheltered but no only Spotted Flycatcher on show with a Buzzard and two Juvenile Kestrels hunting on the hillside.
Sunday I thought we would go along to Tynemouth Haven to catch some of the air show but most of it was too far off so a rather wasted day.
Kirknewton (not sure if the stones are just field clearance or other use)
Looking across the hills
